2018 Mid Atlantic Championships (Rev
9/14/17)
Virginia Motorsports Park
October 11-14, 2018
1/8 mile
The purpose of the Mid Atlantic
Championships is to promote local
grassroots bracket racing at member
tracks and reward local attendance with
recognition and competition.
1. DRIVER ELIGIBILITY – Each
participating track will keep a “points”
system to determine drivers who will
represent their track. Each racer must
be entered in the points program and run
at least 5 points meets of the track
he/she represents. No buy-in entries
from racers not running at a local
track. Any track found using buy in
entries may be suspended for 1 year if
so voted by the participating Track
Operators.
2. TEAM COMPOSTITION – Each team will
consist of 58 members. Teams may send up
to 40 seniors, up to a total of 10
juniors, and up to a total of 8
motorcycles. No alternates will be
permitted. Each track is responsible for
collecting entry fees for the main event
for their racers and submitting a check
or money order to VMP on or before
October 15, 2017. Regardless of number
of entries for each track, every
“partner” track must prepay for a full
team in order to participate in the MAC
3. TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP – The Team
Championship will be determined by a
points system with 1 point being awarded
to the winner of each round. In the case
of a tie, the team with the entry that
went the farthest in competition will be
awarded the higher position. If there is
still a tie, the team that had the most
entries win the 1st round will be the
winner. The winning team will receive
the “Perpetual trophy” for display for
the next season.
4. CREDENTIALS, MEMBERSHIPS, LICENSES –
Each participant, including Juniors,
must be a current, licensed member of
the sanctioning body of his/her choice
(NHRA or IHRA ONLY). License runs will
not be permitted at the Mid Atlantic
Championships.
5. TRACK CODE & PERMANENT NUMBERS – Each
participant must have a track code and
permanent number properly displayed on
the DRIVERS SIDE of their vehicle. MAC
Operators will assign track codes. The
track will sell any number they choose,
up to 4 digits. There should be NO
duplicate numbers on your roster. Track
Code and numbers should be large enough
to be read by officials in the race
control and staging area. All other
numbers or designations should be
removed or covered prior to competition.
Shoe polish is prohibited other than for
DIAL INS ONLY.
6. TECH INSPECTION – Tech Inspection is
the responsibility of the home track.
The track operator will ensure that each
vehicle has been inspected in advance of
the MAC and issue a tech card to the
participating racer. Random inspections
may be performed by a Track Operator or
his/her designee at the event.
7. WRIST BANDS – A VMP Official will
install a colored band on the wrist of
each person admitted thru the gate. Team
members, captains, employees and
crewmembers must wear the wristband at
all times during the weekend.
8. TEAM CAPTAIN – Each track will
provide at track owner/operator/manager
to serve as Team Captain for their team
at the MAC.
9. RACERS – No racer may represent more
than 1 track at the Team Finals. A racer
may enter only 1 vehicle per class but
may have an entry in up to 2 classes if
he/she qualified to participate in the
MAC at his/her home track in 2 classes.
A racer may NOT enter the MAC on a
participating team and on the Outlaw
Team. Outlaw Team members may NOT enter
more than 1 entry for the weekend. Once
a racer declares the team he/she will
represent, he/she may not change teams.
Two drivers are NOT allowed to drive the
same vehicle.
10. RACE OF CHAMPIONS – Each track will
send their TRACK CHAMPION (no
substitutions) to participate in the Mid
Atlantic Championship Race Of Champions.
First round bye runs will be determined
by random tech card draw. All subsequent
bye runs by best reaction time from the
previous round. Bye runs carry over if
unused. Drivers will be paired by a card
draw during all rounds of the ROC.
11. TIME TRIALS – Will be run in
sessions and by class. Racers should not
come to the lanes until their class is
called. Large classes may be split to
enhance traffic flow. There will be 1
time trial on each competition day with
no “cleanup round” unless time permits
(at the discretion of the event
officials).
12. ATV’s & PIT BIKES – A racecar
permanent number must be displayed on
all such vehicles. No joy riding
permitted. All riders must have a valid
state DRIVERS LICENSE. A security person
will be appointed to apprehend
violators. Violators will lose one or
more team points for each violation,
depending on severity. No skateboard, go
carts etc allowed. Track operators share
in the responsibility of enforcing this
rule.
13. FOUR ELIMINATORS – Will be run at
the Mid Atlantic Challenge:
TOP ET – 0-7.99
MODIFIED ET – All Run (Dragsters and
Center Steer Altereds prohibited)
JUNIOR DRAGSTER – All Run 7.90 and
slower
MOTORCYCLE – All Run
14. ELECTRONICS - Note: The penalty for
“intentional non-compliance” will result
in a 5 point deduction for the team and
a 1 year suspension from competition for
the racer.
a. All Classes – Stutter boxes, Timed
Down track throttle stops, on board
computers, data recorders and wheel
pickup sensing devices are prohibited.
b. Top ET – Delay Boxes, Trans Brakes,
Two Steps, Playback Tachs and Air
Throttles used as Launch
Control Devices are allowed. Factory
installed (OEM) computers will be
permitted, but Lap Top
Computers are not allowed in the vehicle
during competition.
c. Modified ET – Electronics, Delay
Boxes, Timers on Nitrous Systems, and
Trans Brakes are prohibited
and not allowed on the car. Air or
Electric Shifters are permitted at
participant tracks discretion. Clutch
operated cars are allowed to run Two
Steps. Shift Lights and Single Stage
Line Locks on non drive wheels are
allowed.
15. CHRISTMAS TREE – The tree will be
separated with a blinder with the Top
Bulbs shielded. LED Bulbs with cones
will be used. Crosstalk will be used in
TOP ET only.
16. AUTOSTART – AutoStart will be used
to start races. Reaction times will be
displayed .000. See the IHRA Rulebook
for Autostart settings and details.
17. LANE CHOICE – Racers wanting the
Left Lane should line up in odd lanes
(1,3,5,7) and racers wanting the Right
Lane should line up in even lanes
(2,4,6,8). In the event that racers
should want the same lane, the lead car
out of the lanes will have lane choice.
18. BYE RUNS – For the first round, the
Tower Officials will randomly determine
the bye run. In subsequent rounds, the
best reaction time will determine the
bye run. In the case of a tie, the racer
that runs closer to their dial (without
breaking out) will receive the bye run.
If a tie still exists the racer that
made the run in question first, will
receive the bye run. A racer is eligible
for a bye until he actually makes a bye
run. Once a racer makes a bye run,
he/she is not eligible for a bye until
everyone left in the class has also had
a bye run. Bye runs carry over until the
racer either uses the bye run or is
eliminated from competition. NOTE: If a
racer selected for a bye is mistakenly
missed and runs in competition, the run
stands regardless of the outcome. The
bye run will receive lane choice.
19. TEAM MEMBER VS. TEAM MEMBER – The
MAC is an event designed to promote Team
Competition, therefore racers from the
same team will not run each other, even
in a run off situation unless they are
the only ones left in competition.
Circumstances such as the number of
entries, track layout, pit parking and
traffic can occur that could make this
difficult to accomplish. It is the
tracks responsibility to help assure
that the racers from the same team do
not run each other. If racers from the
same team running each other becomes the
only alternative, the cars will run one
another and the runs will stand. Note:
The only exception to this is in a bye
run situation.
20. PARKING – The teams will select pit
parking based on order of finish from
the previous season. Grandstand
locations are selected by each team on a
first come, first served basis after the
event is officially opened for
competitor parking.
21. GAMBLERS RACES – There will be 2
gamblers races per class (one each day
Friday and Saturday) along with a High
Roller Gamblers for 64 cars (Top and Mod
only) Friday contested during the
evening. If a gamblers race is not
completed on the scheduled day, the
event will be concluded on the next day
if that race is down to a total of 16
entries or less. If 17 or more entries
remain in the gamblers race, the purse
will be divided among the competitors.
Track operators may compete in a race
vehicle in the gamblers races.
22. RACE PROCEDURE AND RULES – All IHRA
Race Procedures and Safety Rules will be
in effect unless stated otherwise in
this agreement. Contestants should
become familiar with the IHRA Rulebook,
Revisions and this Agreement before
entering the event.
23. RUN ORDER – will be Modified, Top,
JD then Motorcycles each day
24. DEEP STAGING – Please be aware that
Deep Staging is allowed but NOT
guaranteed. It is up to the racer to get
in deep as soon as possible. IT IS NOT
THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STARTER.
25. WEATHER – If weather delays the
event, it will be completed or
rescheduled at the discretion of the MAC
Track Operators (Majority vote).
